Polymicro FR optical fibers are available in single-mode versions for telecommunications or as graded-index constructions of 50 µm and 62.5 µm with glass cladding/buffer outer diameters of 125 µm and 250 µm, respectively. Designed for excellent dimensional control and tight tolerances, Polymicro FR optical fibers are specified for operating temperatures from −40 °C to 100 °C. The UL 94 V-0 flammability rating indicates characteristics recommended for applications requiring enhanced protection against flame propagation and combustion.
The buffer coating used in Polymicro FR optical fibers is mechanically separable, a characteristic it shares with an acrylate buffer, and gives the fiber exceptional stability. Molex offers fibers and buffers in multiple sizes, including multimode pitch-index constructions. Available as single fibers in a variety of jacket materials, Polymicro FR optical fibers have core diameters ranging from less than 50 microns to more than 600 microns.
Fiber optic assemblies offer numerous possibilities for highly customized design configurations, incorporating optomechanical and electromechanical components with custom-configured fused silica, as well as advanced optical features, including end tips, metal terminals, and micromachined precision couplings. The fiber type, termination style, and jacket can be specified to optimize application alignment and system performance.
