According to William Heath, Commercial Director at OMC: "The fiber is designed to provide a low-cost solution for remote imaging in applications where extremely small diameters of coherent glass fiber (such as those used for imaging within blood vessels) are not required. The resolution is very high, making the fiber suitable not only for high-resolution imaging but also for high-precision detection, remote viewing, passive surveillance, and imaging in inaccessible areas. The technology is extremely versatile, and we are simply waiting for the design engineers to discover other applications.".
The high-tensile-strength coherent polymer fiber is composed of over 7,000 individual pixels for high-resolution imaging. Cable diameters of 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm are available, and the cores are protected by a robust outer coating.
