While maintaining backward compatibility with standard OM3 and OM4 fibers, LazrSPEED WBMMF
is based on the concepts of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), a technology used in service provider networks for over twenty years to increase capacity on single-mode fibers. It extends the usable bandwidth from a single wavelength at 850 nm to multiple wavelengths between 850 nm and 950 nm. The initial version will support four wavelengths, capable of transmitting 40G and 100G over a single pair of broadband multimode fibers.
Comparison between WBMMF and OM3/OM4
- Two grades of MMF optimized for 850 nm lasers widely used today:
OM3 offers a minimum of 2000 MHz*km at 850 nm,
and OM4 offers a minimum of 4700 MHz*km at 850 nm.
WideBand OM4 extends the capacity of OM4 across sufficient spectrum to support at least four low-cost wavelengths.

Features and benefits:
- WBMMF maintains support for previous OM4 applications
- Increases capacity to >100G per fiber when using SWDM transceivers
- Enables Ethernet: 40G-SR, 100G-SR, 400G-SR4
- Enables Fibre Channel: 128GFC-SWDM4, 256GFC-SWDM4
- Reduces the number of parallel fibers by a factor of 4
- Expands the utility of MMF as a universal medium
- Same module size as the InstaPATCH 360DM OM4 module
- The module is compatible with existing 360G2 fiber, UHD, and new high-definition fiber
