Being portable (lightweight), battery-powered, and rugged, it's the perfect companion for identifying FTTH field issues related to the GPON or IP service provisioning protocol. It's also a powerful tool for interoperability verification and compliance validation.
GPON Doctor™ is a GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network)-based FTTH (Fiber To The Home) protocol processor and analyzer capable of connecting to any location within any GPON ODN (Optical Distribution Network) and capturing upstream and downstream bit-level information. It interprets all control and management information (OAM, PLOAM, and OMCI) while providing real-time upper-layer traffic extraction.
GPON Doctor™ is a suite of GPON protocol verification tools that allows you to check the "health" of your PON network as a whole or of each individual active element.
It can simultaneously capture all upstream and downstream data and use this captured data to run an intelligent test engine to detect PON status, entity status, relationships between entities, bandwidth allocation, and deviations from standards. Depending on the version, it also emulates an OLT for ONT compliance testing.
Features
• Analyzer: Connects to a fiber point in the GPON FTTH distribution network to achieve the following objectives:
- Capture of fiber data at the bit level in both upstream and downstream directions.
- Interpretation of captured GPON control information: OAM, PLOAM, OMCI, and DBA.
- Data processing to infer the topological situation and the status of network elements such as ONTs and OLTs.
- Application of a series of evaluation rules to identify anomalies in equipment negotiations due to non-compliance with the ITU-T G.984.x protocol.
• Passive: Captures fiber data transparently without modifying or intercepting data transmitted across the network.
• Manufacturer-independent: Not dependent on a specific manufacturer's ONT/OLT chipset. The results obtained are not biased by the perspective of a specific commercial implementation.
• FTTH GPON Protocol: The protocol currently used in FTTH network deployments is characterized by the use of passive optical components to subdivide the fiber optic cable to create a tree-like topology (one source point, N destinations). The set of standards, defined by the FSAN, is described in ITU-T G.984.x.
• Focused on Interoperability: The testing protocol is designed to identify potential errors in the negotiation and transmission between GPON devices due to non-compliance with standards. As a result, the GPON Doctor™ is presented here as the ideal tool for evaluating the implementation of elements in the GPON network and their corresponding interoperability deficiencies between devices from the same and different manufacturers.
• Real-Time Data Extraction: Enables the extraction of real-time user traffic in both upstream and downstream directions. The traffic is extracted at the Ethernet Layer. This traffic can be tested by Upper Layer Protocol Testers, either externally or by a Network Protocol Tester software installed on the GPON Doctor™.
