This function is part of VIAVI Solutions' Optical Network Monitoring Solutions (ONMS) family of remote monitoring and testing solutions, which provide greater network intelligence in fiber environments that form the basis of metropolitan ring networks and in access applications in passive optical networks (PON), 5G and data centers.
The new patented function (8682158) is between one hundred and three hundred times faster than traditional monitoring, with performance that can detect signal attenuation in an unprecedented tenth of a second.
Although network path flutter is one of the most common and damaging problems, it is difficult to diagnose. Until now, operators had no way to detect or locate signal attenuation events, which can cause millions of communication errors worldwide.
Complementing the ONMSi remote fiber testing system, VIAVI, with local support from Grupo COFITEL, also offers industry-leading OTDR technology to provide accurate, high-resolution tracing when locating faults, intrusions, and degradation in metropolitan, central, access, and all fiber optic networks.
