Fiberlocator3webThe Fiber-Locator solution, which belongs to the FiberSec family, is based on high-precision reflectometric measurements that allow obtaining the exact point where an incident occurs in a length of optical fiber.

Thanks to the Fiber-Locator solution, understanding incidents in the fiber optic network is not limited to simply receiving a random event notification. Instead, it enables precise knowledge of the specific segment of the line where the event is occurring. All of this is done on communication lines—fiber optics—that are currently in use with customer data; in other words, it is a "non-intrusive" system, one of its key features. This allows monitoring not just of all the fibers in a network, but of the specific fibers in use. The system is equipped with advanced software tools that allow the user to configure the parameters of their own infrastructure:

• Define operating thresholds for different events that occur along the fiber
• Define measurements based on the fiber's characteristics (refractive index, distances, fiber type, etc.)
• Define measurement points along the route, which are only accessible via software
• Locate events within the system and their geolocation. This will also allow the customer to build indicators into their infrastructure and contribute to availability calculations.

This new feature is part of Fibernet's strategy to provide security solutions for fiber optic networks. Fibernet's new family of security products covers two aspects:
- Monitoring of fiber optic networks to detect in real time what is happening within them and anticipate potential fiber failures, detect intrusion or tampering with fiber cables, precisely locate the exact point of failure (Fiber-Locator), and provide backup routes for all critical communications.
- Encryption of data traveling through fiber optic transport systems. Development of a system that allows low-level encryption of data at different speeds, enabling customers to ensure that information traveling through the fiber is encrypted and preventing anyone attempting to extract data from it.

Esther Gómez, General Director of Fibernet, comments that “fiber optics has always been considered one of the most secure transmission media, and despite this, vulnerabilities always exist, so it is best to take precautions and adopt solutions that allow monitoring and detecting networks.”
