Easy assemblyTherefore, this environment demands installation methods that allow for the rapid assembly of optical fiber with reproducible attenuation levels. Conventional fiber cutting requires subsequent grinding and polishing, which is time-consuming and therefore not always the best option for the installer.

Harting's new assembly tool enables precise cutting and stripping. The two optical fiber conductors are stripped and cut simultaneously using a circular blade. The fiber face is cut so precisely that no further polishing is required. To ensure accurate cuts, the circular blade is synchronized with each step of the process. A mechanical counter integrated into the clamp records the number of cuts performed. A single cutting unit can be used for more than 1,200 cuts. At the end of its service life, the cutting tool locks into place. The user can easily replace it with a new cutting unit. A display shows how many cuts remain, allowing a new cutting unit to be ready well in advance. Ultimately, this tool guarantees reliable assembly with reproducible cutting and attenuation results.
