Under the terms of the agreement, APC by Schneider Electric will provide the technology and infrastructure for IVI's standardized data center architecture. This standardized solution incorporates APC's hardware and software management technology and will be combined with pre-engineered, pre-assembled, and tested elements for data center installations. This will allow for greater construction flexibility, enabling IVI to continuously track evolving customer business needs and avoid the common design and cost issues often encountered during initial data center construction. This versatile solution also provides the ability to virtually reuse facilities and infrastructure if needed for future business needs.

While the initial focus is on the ALBA1 project, located near Ecclefecha in southwest Scotland, the long-term intention of the agreement is to expand this collaboration globally. The first phase of this facility comprises a data center development of approximately 506 square kilometers in the form of a campus, which will be operated by various organizations.

According to Tony Day, Global Director of Data Center Projects and Services at APC by Schneider Electric, “This strategic business agreement is an excellent opportunity for both organizations to develop the next generation of scalable, modular data centers in a truly sustainable environment.” Peter Hewkin, President of IVI, added, “The shared commitment of both companies, along with our broad range of capabilities and customer focus, will allow us to set a new standard for data center efficiency and deliver real value for our customers worldwide.”.

Market experts predict that the ALBA1 site “will be a key hub for emerging new IT markets.” This facility will provide Europe’s largest secure renewable energy center (500 MW) as well as multi-faceted Pan-European and global connectivity. In addition to meeting the stringent requirements of the data center industry, IVI’s ALBA1 is ideally suited to leverage cooling technology and the recycled output of data centers for productive purposes.
