This network is characterized by its low-cost deployment and guaranteed maintenance model, accessible through more than 1,300 base stations deployed by Cellnex Telecom, located in all types of environments. These stations already feature Sigfox technology, providing significantly greater territorial coverage than other European countries.
Thanks to this network, products have been developed and are now available on the market, such as the new generation of Verisure alarms developed by SECURITAS DIRECT with dual SIGFOX connectivity. However, the applications that can be developed in the future are numerous and could materialize in sectors such as healthcare, waste and water management, smart infrastructure, remote monitoring, and many other currently developing markets.
According to Pablo Oliete, Commercial Manager of Abertis Telecom, “Spanish companies need to take advantage of the opportunity to have access to the most extensive UNB (Ultra Narrow Band) network deployed in Europe to date, using SIGFOX technology.” He added, “Cellnex Telecom wants to help Spanish companies be the first to generate business opportunities that, until now, could not have been developed due to the lack of UNB coverage like that deployed by our company. For this reason, we have organized this event together with SIGFOX.”
It is estimated that by 2020 more than 28 billion objects will be interconnected, and with this in mind, the alliance between Cellnex Telecom and Sigfox aims to give Spain a significant role in this process. Gonzalo García, Head of IoT Operations at Cellnex Telecom, advocates for identifying companies capable of generating solutions and creating an ecosystem that fosters synergies and business growth. “We are committed to a multi-technology environment that, in certain cases, incorporates a more efficient transmission model like Sigfox's, supported by a nationwide rollout.”
