Draka is the first cable manufacturer to win an international award for an innovation project, the culmination of which has resulted in the commercialization of the entire Firex Protech EVOLUCIÓN® cable family, launched a year ago.
The Technological Innovation Award, granted annually by CYTED-IBEROEKA (Ibero-American Program of Science and Technology for Development and Cooperation between Ibero-American companies or research and development groups), is named the “Luis Pieri” CYTED-IBEROEKA Award.
This award is public recognition of the best Iberoeka projects, an instrument to promote the competitiveness and cooperation of Ibero-American companies, and is only awarded to the best technological innovation projects carried out during the year.
This year the CYTED Program Jury has decided to award this prize to Draka Cables for its project “Application of Mineral Nanoparticles to Polymeric Compounds Used as a Coating for Electrical Cables”, with reference number IBK 08-577 (ANEC).
Draka's main innovation project has focused on developing new polymer coatings for electrical cables, based on the application of mineral nanoparticles.
As such, Draka Cables is a pioneer in the use of nanotechnology, from the research and production of nanoparticles to their application on a final product: the electrical cable. Thanks to the use of nanotechnology, Draka has made a significant technological leap by developing the Firex Protech EVOLUTION RZ1-K (AS), the most flexible, highest quality, and most durable cable on the market.
The award ceremony will take place at the organization's Forum, to be held on November 22 and 23, 2010, in Cancún, Mexico. This is the highest recognition of teamwork and the excellence of an entire company.
