As one of the leading users of renewable energy in Europe, Finland's power transmission grid is constantly being upgraded to meet the evolving nature of power generation. Solar and wind power generation, for example, require a much more agile and automated grid to manage variable and bidirectional energy flows by automatically scaling up and balancing inputs and outputs. This necessitates new distributed energy resource management systems, which in turn require a highly reliable and secure communications system to monitor, control, coordinate, and manage distributed energy assets.

Nokia's mission-critical IP/MPLS network solution has been deployed by transmission system operators worldwide, supporting these new network applications alongside other critical ones, such as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, teleprotection, and differential current systems, which demand rigorous latency and jitter control. This project is in partnership with NetNordic.
