Operating over existing fiber and Nokia equipment deployed in the Proximus network, the first live 25G PON network connects the Havenhuis building in the Port of Antwerp with Proximus' headquarters in the city center. The network speed exceeded 20 Gigabits per second, making it the fastest fiber network in the world.
Proximus is the leading provider of fixed broadband networks in Belgium, with a market share of 45.9%. The operator is accelerating its fiber rollout, adding 10% coverage each year, and aims to reach at least 70% of homes and businesses by 2028. As part of its inspiring vision for 2022, it is creating a high-capacity open network that will be available to all operators, eliminating the need to overbuild fiber infrastructure.
