The non-exclusive agreement includes a multi-billion dollar purchase commitment from NVIDIA and access rights to future production capacity for advanced laser components. In addition, NVIDIA will invest $2 billion in Lumentum to support research and development, future capacity, and operations, as the company expands its manufacturing capabilities in the United States with a new facility.

Optical interconnect technology and packet integration are critical for further scaling AI factories, improving energy efficiency and the resilience of large-scale AI networks. This expanded collaboration will leverage NVIDIA's leadership in AI, accelerated computing, and networking, along with Lumentum's expertise in optics and advanced manufacturing. The investment will enable Lumentum to increase its production capacity and R&D efforts to meet the needs of future AI data centers.

“AI has reinvented computing and is driving the largest expansion of computing infrastructure in history,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Together with Lumentum, NVIDIA is powering the world’s most advanced silicon photonics to build the next generation of gigawatt-scale AI factories.”
“This multi-year strategic agreement reflects our shared commitment to advancing the optical technologies that will power the next generation of AI infrastructures,” said Michael Hurlston, CEO of Lumentum. “As part of this collaboration, we are also investing in a new manufacturing facility to increase capacity and accelerate innovation. We are excited to work together to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the optical AI architectures of the future.”
