Each year, this event brings together people from all the countries where Telefónica operates. The main objective of the gathering is to maximize the opportunities that currently exist in this area, as well as to foster innovation aimed at reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprint of the telecommunications giant globally. In 2018, Vertiv already received this recognition thanks to the implementation of cooling systems in one of Telefónica's most important data centers, located in Columbia, near Bogotá.

In February 2018, Vertiv and Telefónica announced a long-term global alliance to drive energy savings through customized infrastructure solutions. Under this agreement, Vertiv provides Energy Savings as a Service (ESaaS) across all of Telefónica's backbone and access network sites in Europe and South America, covering services ranging from site energy analysis to comprehensive maintenance.

“We have achieved our energy and climate change targets ahead of schedule, so at Telefónica we have set ourselves more ambitious goals to use more renewable energy, achieve greater energy efficiency, and reduce CO2 emissions,” says Nilmar Seccomandi, Head of Network & System Infrastructure at Telefónica. “To meet these new targets, it is essential to industrialize the Energy Savings as a Service (ESaaS) model, which Vertiv accepted the challenge of implementing two years ago and which was used to carry out the technological renovation project for Telefónica Spain’s Concepción building. We hope that Vertiv will be able to present similar projects in other countries at the 2020 workshop, which we will be holding in Chile.”

“This recognition from Telefónica, which we have received for the second year in a row, confirms Vertiv’s commitment to the continuous improvement of energy efficiency in the projects we participate in, and also demonstrates the capabilities of our teams and the quality of the solutions we have developed. With our contribution, clients achieve long-term sustainability, improving their environmental impact while also obtaining significant cost savings in their operations,” explained Fernando García, Vice President and General Manager of Vertiv in Latin America.

Oscar Fenoll, Vertiv's global account manager for Telefónica, stated: “The excellent collaborative work on energy efficiency between Telefónica and Vertiv is materializing project by project, resulting in significant energy savings. The three awards Telefónica has consistently received confirm the positive progress made, which we now aim to accelerate through disruptive models like Energy as a Service (ESaaS). In addition to improving Telefónica's competitive position, we are all contributing to mitigating the impact of climate change.”.

José Alfonso Gil, Vertiv's country manager in Spain, highlighted: “As a global provider with a broad portfolio of energy efficiency solutions, Vertiv is ideal for Telefónica's partners in projects like ESaaS. Vertiv offers not only high-efficiency products, but also experienced consulting, comprehensive monitoring, and service and maintenance programs that address both efficiency and availability.”
