The deployment of optical packet and microwave radio transport technologies in metropolitan areas enables the high-speed connectivity, network availability, and distribution capacity required by TIM to enhance its customers' experience. Furthermore, this solution eliminates network complexity by minimizing operating expenses. As part of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent is also providing a comprehensive suite of professional services: consulting, network design, project management, installation, and commissioning.
“The success of our 3G services is driving demand for new services and higher speeds. To meet the growing traffic, we need to transform our infrastructure toward a simpler network architecture that ensures cost-effectiveness and the highest quality of service delivery,” said Marco Di Costanzo, Network Director of TIM Brasil. “With Alcatel-Lucent’s advanced packet transport solution, we will bring cost-effectiveness to the next generation of mobile broadband, while also preparing for WiMAX and LTE-based services.”.
Alcatel-Lucent's managed solution is based on its 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS) and 9500 Microwave Packet Radio (MPR) system, which are part of the META (Mobile Evolution Transport Architecture) and incorporate innovative features such as T-MPLS and service-dependent adaptive modulation. The solution optimizes traffic aggregation and transport, from base stations to the network core, and supports multiple traffic types on the same platform. Additionally, it automatically allocates the appropriate bandwidth to ensure that services are delivered according to the required quality.
“Supporting our customers in effectively transforming their networks is critical to helping them generate greater profitability and a better service experience for their end users,” commented Osvaldo Di Campli, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s operations in the Caribbean and Latin America. “This deployment further strengthens our global relationship with TIM and confirms our capacity for innovation and execution.”.
