The 2018 Keysight State of 5G survey shows that more than half (54 percent) of surveyed companies are already adopting 5G technologies, with 46 percent stating that securing market leadership early in the 5G lifecycle is the primary objective of their investments. More than two-thirds of respondents said they are actively seeking 5G testing solutions to accelerate the development or finalization of 5G technology deployment.
“To meet customer demand and establish market leadership, equipment manufacturers and service providers need early access to 5G testing tools and capabilities,” said Kailash Narayanan, Vice President and General Manager of Wireless Devices and Carriers at Keysight Technologies. “Keysight’s close collaborations with the industry consortium and industry leaders, leading technical experts, and comprehensive 5G testing solutions are empowering the mobile industry to accelerate the development and commercialization of 5G product design.”
The majority of respondents (63 percent) in the Keysight survey expect greater reliability and shorter wait times to maximize the impact of 5G technology. These aspects are important for addressing new business opportunities. Respondents indicated that the top three benefits of deploying 5G technology are faster networks, increased IoT activation, and a proliferation of connected cars.
By leveraging both new and existing technologies, including wider bandwidths in millimeter wave frequencies, massive MIMO, and virtualized networks, 5G will provide numerous advantages to meet customer demand across a wide range of vertical industries.
"The fact that many respondents are seeking trial solutions means that those who invented and deployed the technology want to ensure their deployments are as expected, while also securing a market-leading position," said Roger Nichols, 5G Program Director at Keysight Technologies. “Many of these technologies, or combinations thereof, are new to the world of radiocommunications, which explains why the industry is looking for tools to help them analyze, design, measure and validate designs that are based on these technologies.”

graph1-wKeysight commissioned Dimensional Research to conduct a survey to measure readiness and attitudes toward 5G deployment worldwide. The results clearly demonstrated that nearly half of global businesses are already deploying 5G networks or plan to do so within the next 12 months. These findings underscore pent-up consumer demand for 5G; the technology is there, it's real, and customers want it.

Executive Summary:
This research has found that the 5G market is on track, with nearly half
of all companies currently evaluating or deploying 5G technologies. More than half of the surveyed companies will complete the deployment of 5G solutions and networks within the next 12 months. This report reveals that customer demand is the biggest driver of 5G technology. Respondents indicated that the coverage and capabilities of 5G networks will expand and create new business opportunities.
This finding underscores that 5G is not technology for technology's sake: genuine business needs are driving the market. For example, financial services, one of the largest industries, ranks third, behind the telecommunications and technology industries, in driving the need for 5G.
5G's market penetration has begun. Early adopters who offer quality products will have a significant advantage, because customers are waiting. Nearly 70% of respondents acknowledged that product quality requires thorough testing.

of Keysight’s 2018 State of 5G survey reflect growing enthusiasm for 5G capabilities and a rapid pace of deployment. More than half (54%) of companies have begun developing 5G technologies, with at least 16% partially implemented. And 46% of respondents stated they are already investing in 5G to secure their market leadership.
It’s worth noting that 5G is more than just a fantasy. The process of developing standards and infrastructure has made 5G seem like a distant and intangible future.

Almost all (98%) of respondents reported that 5G will have a significant impact, with a majority (63%) indicating an improvement in network reliability and latency.

The main reason companies are investing in 5G technologies is customer demand (53%), followed by the need for a flexible and scalable network (50%).

graphic4-wThe benefits of 5G extend beyond the telecommunications and technology industries — that is, beyond technology for technology's sake — to a wide range of industries.

In particular, financial services was one of the industries respondents identified as a driver of the need for 5G technology (37%).
These findings illustrate the many new applications that are only possible in a 5G environment. New opportunities emerging from high-speed, low-latency communications have the potential to change and transform almost every industry and create entirely new ones.

But 5G is much more than just the networks that comprise it; it also enables users to get the most out of the technology. When asked what the biggest benefits of 5G would be, the majority of respondents answered faster networks (78%).
But the next two most common answers pointed to the activation of new technologies for a greater degree of IoT (64%) and the proliferation of connected cars (38%).
Due to this growing market need and industry momentum, more than two-thirds (69%) of respondents said they are actively seeking 5G-ready testing solutions to support and accelerate the development or final implementation of 5G technologies.

5G underscores the importance of getting things right from the start. Testing technology during deployment, when businesses and customers rely on it for
reliable service that goes beyond the limitations of 4G, is not the answer. This survey demonstrates that those working across the 5G industry understand what's at stake and want dedicated 5G testing equipment so the industry can deliver on the promise of 5G.

Technologies commissioned Dimensional Research to conduct this survey. A total of 355 technology leaders and strategists, from service providers to technology companies, completed the survey, which aimed to gather reliable data on the adoption, implementation, drivers, challenges, and benefits of 5G. Experienced technology professionals from around the world were invitedgraphic5-w
to participate in a survey about 5G technologies and their companies' plans for adoption and use. The survey was delivered electronically, and participants were offered a token stipend for their participation.
