This pilot project, which can be extended to the rest of the company's rural service points with connectivity difficulties, will be carried out in six locations: three in Zamora (Santa Cristina de la Polvorosa, Fermoselle and Coreses), two in Teruel (Valdealgolfa and Mosqueruela) and one in Soria (Duruelo de la Sierra).
The integration of these customer service points into the computerized network of post offices represents an improvement in efficiency and speed. On the one hand, all mail and parcel acceptance and delivery operations will be recorded in a system that allows for better identification and tracking of shipments. On the other hand, the technological connection to the office network will facilitate "real-time" transactions such as instant money orders, international money transfers, payment of energy bills, prepaid card top-ups, dealings with the DGT (Spanish Directorate General of Traffic), and withdrawals and deposits into Santander Bank accounts.
This project is one of 23 that Correos has submitted to the ministries for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge; Industry, Trade and Tourism; and Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, with the aim of competing for the distribution of European Funds.
Specifically, this initiative is part of Correos' actions related to the demographic challenge, one of Correos' most important commitments to society and its environment, to bring digitalization and new technologies to rural areas.
The computerization of the 2,295 public service points in rural areas will allow not only postal or parcel services, but also bringing Public Administrations closer to citizens through access to the records of entities adhering to the Virtual Registry Office (ORVE), payment of taxes, collection of bills, access to financial services through Correos Cash, purchase of DGT badges and new products and services.
