Optical packet transport systems combine optical switching functions with optical WDM, thereby enhancing the functionality of WDM systems beyond high-capacity performance to include bandwidth management, protection, and restoration. As equipment manufacturers, adding open control interfaces, optical packet transport equipment can be an excellent networking element for carrying out network change requests from an SDN controller, as well as service startup and termination.
