The infrastructure project will play a key role in NBNCo's plans to deliver a high-speed broadband network, bringing cutting-edge broadband to every Australian home and business. Emerson's victory was due to the breadth of its product portfolio and its ability to provide the most cost-effective and energy-efficient infrastructure design for the facilities to be established in the continent's capital cities, which will serve as equipment hubs, operational stations, and training centers.
Valued at over $100 million, the winning bid leverages Emerson’s broad product portfolio, including high-efficiency power systems (Trinergy and ASCO), precision cooling systems from Liebert and SmartAisle optimization, infrastructure management and monitoring from SiteScan, and fully integrated, factory-tested modular configuration systems. These products benefit from Emerson’s proprietary integration expertise, which combines solutions engineering, end-to-end project management, global supply chain and logistics, and on-site civil works (through partnerships with Silcar and Greenbox Architecture).
Emerson leverages a global product platform, combined with experienced R&D and service teams in Australia, Europe, Asia, and North America. This is reflected in the team behind the NBN project, which boasts experienced global resources but is built upon extensive local IT and telecommunications expertise.
Ross Campbell, vice president of telecommunications in Asia for Emerson Network Power and a veteran of telecom campaigns in Australia, says that the extensive experience and technical depth that Emerson offers its customers is unmatched.
“Our approach reflects a dimension of our company that sets us apart: our ability to create integrated solutions that bring together key IT and telecommunications components,” says Campbell. “This capability will deliver significant value not only to NBNCo, but also to the general public as beneficiaries of the technology, with greater efficiency in network deployment and higher levels of network performance.”
Emerson Network Power Australia Managing Director David Scott, a 38-year Emerson veteran, says NBN will provide Australia with a competitive edge in global business and commercial opportunities. “It’s not just about bandwidth; the facility hubs will house systems and information that must deliver certain levels of energy efficiency, reliability, and management functionality so that NBNCo can keep the network running and deliver on its promises to the Australian community.”
Scott states that in recent years Emerson has pursued an acquisition-focused strategy to add complementary data center infrastructure products and technologies to its core portfolio. “This business strategy has enabled us to offer NBNCo an unparalleled solution of integrated IT and telecommunications technologies and services,” Scott says.
