Kutxabank data centerKutxabank didn't hesitate to turn to Fibernet for this project, given their previous collaboration on similar projects.
The bank's main challenge was overcoming the significant distance between its data centers and interconnecting them with high-capacity services in long-distance environments.
The large volume of data to be exchanged between the three locations, along with the demanding communication performance requirements, necessitated the use of two dedicated fiber optic lines, each with its own independent path, to ensure high availability and protection against service interruptions.
This project, launched in September 2012, culminated in the installation of Fibernet's DUSAC DWDM equipment with FTX-N transponders and an OSW optical switching system, which provides automatic path backup. In the event of a path failure, the same services are maintained but transported over the backup path.
A direct 140 km fiber optic route has been configured between the data centers in Bilbao and Zamudio and San Sebastián. Fibernet did not need to install any intermediate equipment along this route. However, on the alternative 280 km route, an intermediate node was installed to collect and amplify the signal sent by the data centers.
Fibernet's optical communications project is a fundamental component of Kutxabank's data center infrastructure improvement plan. With three data center locations, all active simultaneously, the communications network between these three sites is a key and essential infrastructure.
The result:
Connecting data centers that require high-capacity communication over long distances is complex, but this has been made possible thanks to Fibernet's technology and the commitment of the engineering and services team.
In the year since the project began, Fibernet's equipment has not generated any alarms or required intervention from network operators or the maintenance service.
