TVWS technology utilizes unused or unallocated spectrum in the UHF and VHF bands allocated to broadcasting. TVWS-based technologies operate in a secondary role without causing interference to primary users, such as broadcast licensees. TVWS technology has been deployed in dozens of projects worldwide, demonstrating its ability to deliver low-cost, broadband, and other forms of connectivity across large geographic areas.
ANE's achievement comes just 16 months after it co-organized the 2016 DSA World Summit in Bogotá, Colombia. During the Summit, regulators, policymakers, and key stakeholders met to discuss the core objectives of good spectrum policy: promoting spectrum knowledge, fostering innovative spectrum management, promoting technical neutrality and competition, and ensuring the efficient use of spectrum and transparency.
Many commercial applications for TVWS regulations are already in use in projects around the world, including in Europe, North America, and Africa. These technologies and developments will be discussed at the 2018 DSA World Summit, which will be held in Europe for the first time.
