When the entire network implementation is complete, including associated elements such as data centers and Internet Exchange Points, the SACS system will represent a paradigm shift in the telecommunications sector in Africa. In the words of António Nunes, CEO of Angola Cables: "For Angolans, access time to content available in the Americas, the largest center for the production and aggregation of digital content and services, will be accelerated fivefold." Currently, the connection between Angola and Brazil takes approximately 300 milliseconds, but with the SACS system, latency (the delay between sending and receiving a data packet) is expected to be reduced to approximately 60 milliseconds.
“Angola is becoming one of the telecommunications hubs in Sub-Saharan Africa,” Mr. Nunes added. “Current cable systems, such as WACS, along with SACS and Monet cabling systems, complemented by local data centers, will not only improve connectivity but also provide economic benefits to Angola and the surrounding regions as technology companies that require high connectivity establish themselves and grow their operations in Africa.”
The cable installation phase on the Angolan coast is one of the most critical aspects of the project because it requires multiple levels of interaction and simultaneous activity with various entities, making it a decisive and high-risk moment. Protecting both the cable and the equipment involved is a key consideration, and therefore the work is carried out rigorously and with meticulous planning. "The installation of the SACS represents the realization of a dream, a breakthrough that reflects our ability to find solutions and overcome challenges, always with the ultimate goal in mind," stated António Nunes.
