The Commission brings together more than 40 founding members—including heads of state and government, CEOs and senior executives from the sector, and heads of United Nations agencies—to help define practical ways to build trust, expand access, and harness the potential of AI to solve real-world challenges at the speed that technology demands.

The newly established Commission occupies a unique position in the global AI landscape. By connecting leaders who develop technology, deploy it at scale, shape policy, and represent communities, the Commission aims to help forge responsible AI solutions that transcend sectors and borders, while ensuring the participation of developing countries.

“One thing is certain: technology is supposed to be a force for good, and we have a responsibility to use it accordingly,” said President Kagame, Co-Chair of the Commission. “Let us work together to reduce inequality and enable more and more citizens to benefit from the good that AI can bring to us all.”.

“The promise of AI is based not only on the incredible opportunities for our economy to grow, but also on the foundation of trust necessary for our shared success,” said Benioff, co-chair of the Commission.
With 2.2 billion people still lacking internet access, a quarter of the world is being left behind by advances in AI. One of the main objectives of the Global Commission on AI for Good will be to reduce the digital divide and help ensure that AI becomes a tool for solving global challenges, rather than exacerbating inequalities.

The new Global Commission “AI for Good” builds on the foundations of the ITU-UNESCO Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, a multi-stakeholder body that helped define global priorities for connectivity, digital inclusion and economic development

“No single organization can, on its own, put AI at the service of all humanity,” said Bogdan-Martin, Vice-Chair of the Commission. “It will take collective leadership and the combined expertise of partners from all sectors to ensure that AI benefits everyone, everywhere.”
The Global Commission on AI for Good will hold its inaugural meeting during the ITU Global Summit on AI for Good 2026 (7-10 July) in Geneva, Switzerland. The Summit is part of Digital Week, a series of digital cooperation events taking place in Geneva from 6-10 July, which also includes the first-ever UN-mandated Global Dialogue on AI Governance (6-7 July) and the WSIS Forum 2026 (6-10 July).
