The initiative aims to bring its partners together to facilitate the link between network standards and smart grid energy management capabilities, in the growing range of connected and controlled devices that are becoming a reality within the smart home.

A key component of any smart home will be a gateway system that allows access from a smartphone or tablet to the multitude of appliances and devices within the home. This access is possible via the local network or the cloud, enabling users to enjoy the convenience of the Internet of Things, as well as reduced energy consumption by controlling each connected appliance and ensuring its efficient use. Wireless connectivity will be a fundamental component of the gateway, and Murata has already developed a small gateway solution that utilizes its wireless connectivity solutions and supports EEBUS standards. In collaboration with EEBus and the VDE Test Institute, the solution will be showcased at the upcoming IFA consumer electronics trade show.
