Customers in areas covered by FTTH will now have access to internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps, as well as many other services, according to the operator. After this initial phase, in the coming months Orange will be able to offer its more advanced technologies and services to people living in other Spanish cities.
In addition to La Vaguada, other areas of Madrid, such as Retiro, Montecarmelo, Sanchinarro, Chamberí, and Vicálvaro, can also benefit from FTTH services. In total, up to 40,000 homes in the Spanish capital could be connected to the fiber optic network.
More than 58,000 homes in Catalonia and Asturias could also be offered FTTH services from Orange through third-party networks. So, by next summer, Orange could provide FTTH to up to 100,000 homes and businesses in Spain.
Over the next 12 months, Orange plans to expand its fiber optic broadband offering to 400,000 homes across the country, in collaboration with Vodafone Spain, following an agreement signed by the two operators last March.
