Glen Canyon's small, cost-effective NEXGEN Smart Meters are SIGFOX Ready™ certified, providing cost-effective, energy-efficient, bidirectional data transmission over the global SIGFOX network. Thanks to SIGFOX connectivity, the meters measure energy consumption and usage time in real time. Users can also request on-demand readings, service interruption reports, remote disconnection (load overload for commercial and industrial customers), and choose a prepaid plan.
“The SIGFOX network is a clear choice for Glen Canyon’s low-cost, plug-and-play smart meters, as it perfectly aligns with our commitment to providing highly functional yet affordable smart meters to utilities worldwide,” explains John Heibel, CEO of Glen Canyon. “We designed our meters to deliver critical real-time data at the lowest possible cost, and the SIGFOX network makes this possible better than any other alternative. Furthermore, after testing all LPWA solutions, we found that SIGFOX clearly outperformed other solutions in terms of modem cost, indoor penetration depth, and reliability.”
The agreement, following the deployment of the SIGFOX network in San Francisco and 10 European countries, highlights the company’s ability to work with diverse partners, including national network operators, governments, SMEs, and startups, bringing its dedicated IoT network to multiple users globally.
“Glen Canyon offers energy suppliers cost-effective, low-energy, multi-functional smart meters that can rapidly scale smart grid deployments across continents,” said Stuart Lodge, executive vice president of sales and partners at SIGFOX. “This is the beginning of a collaboration that we hope will help establish smart grids in many countries, as the SIGFOX network is being deployed globally and demonstrates how the grid can help innovative companies grow their businesses.”
The vast majority of smart utilities that will be connected to the IoT will need very simple, cost-effective, and low-power connectivity to transmit or receive their data. In addition to meeting these requirements, SIGFOX maintains a guaranteed service level agreement for customers and a simple subscription fee. These advantages, all included in one contract, allow Glen Canyon to integrate meters and its AMI services into a turnkey solution where the SIGFOX network is already operational.
