ZTE's 3D-MIMO technology has helped increase average data throughput by two to four times, with data speeds at the cell edge increasing by five to seven times, according to the results of a trial conducted on China Mobile's commercial network in the Guangzhou metropolitan area. The pre-commercial test, conducted jointly with China Mobile's Guangdong provincial subsidiary and the China Mobile Research Institute, demonstrated the capabilities of ZTE's 3D-MIMO solution, which improves network performance and coverage in an area with a high concentration of tall buildings.
The 3D-MIMO solution provides more accurate beamforming transmission and more efficient spatial multiplexing to greatly strengthen a network's resilience to interference, improve cell and overall network performance, and is a key component of ZTE's Pre5G technology.
ZTE's 3D-MIMO base stations feature the company's patented intellectual property, with 128 integrated antenna elements and advanced vector baseband processing chipsets, and are fully compatible with the evolution of existing long-term 4G (LTE) infrastructure and user terminals, making deployment easier for operators.
5G research is key to ZTE's strategy to become a global leader in developing next-generation network technologies. In June 2014, ZTE was the first vendor to present the Pre5G concept, and the company launched its Pre5G base station, integrating the baseband unit (BBU) and remote radio unit (RRU) technology, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2015. This allowed companies to emulate the behavior of future 5G networks on existing 4G LTE network infrastructure.
ZTE's Pre5G 3D-MIMO products have won numerous international awards. In March 2014, ZTE's Pre5G 3D-MIMO products won the Innovative Solution and Fastest to Market awards at the TD-LTE Global Initiative (GTI) awards in Barcelona. In May 2015, ZTE won the Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation award for its Pre5G products at the Global Telecom Business (GTB) Innovation Awards. In June 2015, ZTE was awarded the Frost & Sullivan Global Technology Innovation Award in 5G Networks, from one of the world's leading consulting firms, in recognition of ZTE's outstanding performance and achievements in 5G technology innovation, and its industry-leading position.
