IEC 61076-3-122 establishes the minimum requirements for mini-connectors for industrial applications to ensure consistent interoperability and performance, thereby guaranteeing safety. Connectors intended for industrial applications have very demanding requirements, as they are often used in harsh environments with high mechanical stresses related to vibration and rapid movements, ambient stress caused by dust and humidity, and potential exposure to radiated electromagnetic fields.
“TE is pleased that, with the development and publication of the IEC 61076-3-122 standard, the I/O mini-connector is the first standardized mini-connector for industrial communication in an IP20 environment. In addition to its advantages for industrial applications in harsh environments, the connector’s small size allows for the construction of smaller devices, thus increasing the density of components within enclosures,” said Guenter Feldmeier, Global Director of Standardization and Consortia at TE’s business unit. “At TE Connectivity, we are delighted that the standard for I/O mini-connectors is based on our technology.”.
Regarding the current use of mini-connectors in industrial automation systems such as MECHATROLINK and VARAN, Feldmeier comments: “The reliability of the I/O mini-connector in harsh environments has already been demonstrated by industry users. The standard now offers an exciting opportunity to accelerate its adoption from other ecosystems.”.
