With over 2,400 customers, VMware NSX offers application-centric networking and security solutions independent of the underlying infrastructure. VMware NSX for vSphere is the network virtualization platform for vSphere-based deployments. VMware NSX-T is a network virtualization platform for new architectures and application frameworks with heterogeneous endpoints. VMware NSX is central to VMware's strategy to drive network transformation across the industry. The NSX network virtualization platform is the cornerstone of VMware's Cross-Cloud architecture and a core component of VMware Cloud Foundation, Cross-Cloud Services, and VMware Cloud on AWS. More than 11,000 professionals have participated in VMware NSX training activities, and over 7,000 have already earned NSX certification.

Customers who adopt VMware NSX for vSphere gain the agility and efficiency of a software-defined data center by applying the benefits of virtualization across the entire data center. With VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3, NSX now supports VMware vSphere 6.5, and the enhancements enable new levels of simplicity, security, and operational scalability, reducing future platform upgrade times by up to five times.

• Security. The new features of the application rules manager and endpoint monitoring provide unique visibility into activity, from the operating system to network flows, facilitating automatic updates of policies and rules, and improving micro-segmentation.
• Application continuity. The enhancements result in consistent and dynamic security policies for customers who need to scale their software-defined environments across multiple data centers and VMware vCenters.
• SDDC with connectivity to remote offices. NSX allows customers to extend a unified virtual network fabric with consistent security controls to remote endpoints from a central location, making it possible to connect a software-defined data center to multiple remote offices.
• Service Provider/NFV Deployment. Support for VMware vCloud Director offers advanced NSX self-service capabilities for service provider deployments of multi-tenant architectures and network functions virtualization (NFV) initiatives.

VMware NSX-T now supports new application architectures and frameworks.
VMware NSX-T 1.1 offers customers an agile, software-defined infrastructure for building cloud-native application environments. With the new VMware NSX-T 1.1, VMware has announced:

• Support for VMware Photon Platform, an enterprise cloud infrastructure platform optimized for containers and modern applications, built specifically for use in application programming interface (API) environments, multi-tenancy, and high scalability.
• Extended support for multiple kernel-based virtual machine (KVM) distributions from Canonical and Red Hat.
• Updated support for OpenStack Newton and Mitaka.
• New beta program for customers interested in container networking and security for application frameworks compatible with the Container Network Interface (CNI) project.
