DM320018-PIC32-Bluetooth-wIn addition, the kit includes PICkit™ On Board (PKOB), which eliminates the need for an external debugger/programmer; USB connectivity; and GPIO for rapid application development with Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP), USB, and general-purpose interfaces. This starter kit also incorporates a plug-in interface for an audio CODEC daughterboard, which is planned to be announced at a later date as support for Bluetooth audio.

The Bluetooth starter kit includes a PIC32MX270F256D main processor microcontroller operating at 83 DMIPS with 256 KB Flash and 64 KB RAM, and features a powerful set of functions, including USB, I2S/SPI, mTouch® capacitive touch sensing, and an 8-bit Parallel Master port. The kit reduces software development time by providing a free, optimized Bluetooth SPP stack for the embedded PIC32 microcontroller to configure emulated serial port connections between two Bluetooth devices.

The Bluetooth starter kit targets low-cost consumer applications such as Bluetooth thermostats and wireless game controllers. In the medical and industrial markets, applications include blood glucose meters, wireless diagnostic tools, Bluetooth GPS receivers, Bluetooth serial adapters, and wireless barcode readers.

The PIC32 Bluetooth Starter Kit features support for the free MPLAB® X Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and Microchip's MPLAB Harmony embedded software environment. A free Quick Start Package, which includes a development environment for Android™ applications, is also available. Additionally, a Software Development Kit (SDK) containing application source code and binary code for Microchip's SPP Bluetooth Library is included. Both are optimized for the embedded PIC32 microcontroller and are available as a free download from the documentation and software section at microchip.com/get/1AVL.

The PIC32 starter kit (DM320018) is priced at $79.99 and is available for purchase now.
