This new functionality allows you to detect if the tuned channel contains interactive TV services. To access this information, tune to a channel and, in TV mode, access the screen where the service details are displayed. The Application field will show whether the program offers interactive TV services, such as HbbTV, MHP, MHEG, etc.
In Spain, the most widespread standard is HbbTV, also known as Hybrid Television.
What is Hybrid Television or HbbTV?
HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) is a pan-European standard that essentially combines traditional digital television reception (RF via terrestrial antenna or satellite) with on-demand television programs and other interactive services received via the internet. HbbTV aims to harmonize all the necessary elements for developing universal applications, eliminating operational barriers across the wide variety of available devices.
By tuning into a channel with HbbTV content, while enjoying our favorite television channel received via conventional DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television), the receiver will suggest other available and complementary options received via the internet. If we choose one of these, we will be able to access that content on demand, with it reaching our television via the internet. In addition to being able to view video on demand, other advantages of this format include interactivity, as it allows information to be sent in real time to the television network, so viewers can participate in contests, polls, or votes conducted on television without changing the screen or interrupting the live broadcast. It can also offer extra content to what is currently being broadcast, such as outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, or information about the program's participants.
What exactly is the Spanish variant, "Hybrid DTT"?
On the other hand, Hybrid DTT is a Spanish specification that includes the HbbTV standard we just explained, and also adds the default values of the Spanish specification and a DRM (Digital Rights Management) system to guarantee secure access to premium content. Hybrid DTT is the result of agreements reached at the Digital TV Forum, made up of manufacturers, distributors, and operators in Spain.
