CAN XL is the third generation of the CAN standard, developed by the CAN in Automation (CiA) group. It improves upon the established CAN FD protocol with higher data throughput and bit rates. CAN XL data rates are specified to reach 10 Mbps or more, depending on the transceiver capabilities and physical layer components. CAN XL has two operating modes: fast mode and SIC mode (or slow mode).
Keysight automotive decoding software correctly triggers and decodes the SIC mode signal during the arbitration phase, as well as the fast mode signal during the data phase. It also handles CAN XL protocols implemented with CAN HS/FD/SIC transceivers.
“In-vehicle networking technologies play a key role in the fast and reliable transmission of data from sensors to AI decision-making units, as well as between safety-relevant electronic control units and electronic systems within the car,” said Thomas Goetzl, vice president and general manager of the automotive and energy solutions business unit at Keysight. “The variety of automotive serial bus standards reflects the diverse needs and requirements of the automotive industry, and Keysight is excited to continue providing industry-leading solutions that support additional capabilities and use cases.”
The Keysight D9010AUTP software is compatible with Keysight Infiniium oscilloscopes using software version 11.30 or later for MXR/EXR/UXR models and version 6.72 or later for other Infiniium oscilloscope models, enabling users to:
• Configure the oscilloscope to display and decode CAN, LIN, CAN-FD, CAN XL, FlexRay, and SENT protocols in under 30 seconds
• Access a comprehensive built-in set of protocol-level triggers
• Save time and eliminate errors by viewing packets at the protocol level
• Use time-correlated displays to quickly troubleshoot serial protocol problems to their root cause, whether signal integrity or timing issues
