The expansion was agreed upon following consultations at the 2023 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-23) in Dubai. Prior to the conference, concerns had been raised that cellular network activity could disrupt existing operations in the upper 6 GHz band, which was already primarily used by mobile traffic. An agreement was reached to allocate the upper 6 GHz band to the bands authorized for 5G FR1.

Anritsu's MT8000A wireless communications test station supports RF measurements, protocol testing, and functional testing, and is compatible with the FR1 and FR2 bands used by 5G. A software update ensures the platform covers RF testing in the 6 GHz band, enabling countries to develop and deploy services using licensed 6 GHz bands.
