These new capabilities further simplify signal generation requirements for R&D and manufacturing engineers developing devices to Wi-SUN and LTE/LTE-A standards or performing specification compliance testing of such devices.

“As a recognized leader in electronic measurement, Keysight is actively involved in the development, review, and implementation of emerging standards, such as Wi-SUN and LTE-Advanced,” said Satish Dhanasekaran, Marketing Director for Keysight’s Microwave and Communications Division. “The new Signal Studio software capabilities complement our extensive portfolio of standards-based signal generation and analysis solutions, reinforcing our commitment to providing designers with the world-class solutions they need to evolve their standards-based designs.”.

Signal Studio N7610B

Keysight's new Signal Studio N7610B software generates Wi-SUN signals and supports Wi-SUN's MR-FSK and MR-OFDM modes. Advanced, fully coded capabilities allow the software to easily perform compliance testing of receiver specifications using Keysight's signal generators (e.g., MXG/EXG, PSG/ESG, or PXIe). For a more comprehensive R&D and manufacturing solution, the N7610B can be used with Keysight's signal analysis tools. With its functionality and flexibility, the N7610B software addresses the needs of the emerging smart infrastructure networking market (e.g., smart grids) in Japan and US companies working with Wi-SUN-based solutions and products.

Wi-SUN is based on the open global standard IEEE 802.15.4g-2012 and aims to promote and enable the use of interoperable, reliable, cost-effective, and low-power mobile products for intelligent mobile infrastructure networks and related applications. The 802.15.4g PHY standard carries various data rates in frequency bands from 450 MHz to 2.4 GHz and operates in three modes: 1) multi-rate, multi-region frequency-shift keying (MR-FSK); 2) multi-rate orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MR-OFDM); and 3) multi-rate, multi-region quadrature phase-shift keying (MR-OQPSK).

LTE-A is an advanced fourth-generation mobile communications technology, defined in the tenth and subsequent versions of the 3GPP LTE standard. Section eight of the tenth version of the LTE Home Base Station (eNB) Receiver Specification Compliance Test requires a real-time HARQ-capable MIMO configuration on two antenna ports to test the shared physical uplink channel under multipath fading propagation conditions.

Thanks to its support for 2x2 uplink MIMO with HARQ, Signal Studio N7624B/25B for LTE/LTE-Advanced has everything needed to meet this requirement. The N7624B/25B software is the first 2x2 UL LTE MIMO solution with real-time HARQ signal generation on the market, and Keysight is the only vendor in the industry to offer a complete specification compliance testing solution for eNB LTE receivers.

The N7624B/25B solution is ideal for base station R&D engineers performing compliance testing of eNB LTE receivers according to the 3GPP TS 36.141 standard. The software works with Keysight PXB or X-Series signal generators. In PXB generators, the 2x2 MIMO signal is configured directly on the PXB. An internal attenuator adds the propagation condition. The eNB generates the closed-loop HARQ response signal and sends it to the PXB, where its baseband generator responds in real time. Two RF signal generators then perform the upconversion of the signal for the PXB.

The Keysight X-Series Signal Generator with real-time baseband generator offers the same 2x2 MIMO signal generation capability and real-time response to the eNB's HARQ signal as the PXB generator. This is achieved by using two X-Series signal generators and an external attenuator.
