The PIM Hunter test probe, designed for Anritsu's PIM Master™, Spectrum Master™, and BTS Master™ handheld analyzers, enables field professionals to use traditional interference detection techniques to accurately locate external sources of PIM and achieve optimal radio network performance.

The PIM Hunter addresses the market need for a simple and efficient method to resolve a growing problem among mobile operators. It complements Anritsu's patented Distance-to-PIM™ (DTP) technology to determine the distance between the antenna and the external PIM. A technician can walk along the arc of the distance with the PIM Hunter to pinpoint the exact source of the external PIM. Integrating the PIM Hunter with any compatible Anritsu handheld analyzer that incorporates Burst Detect Sweep Mode provides the necessary tools to accurately identify external PIM sources and remediate the site more quickly. It is especially useful for detecting PIM on rooftops, the most common location in terms of network density in urban environments.

The PIM Hunter has been specifically designed for identifying external PIM in the 600 MHz to 2700 MHz frequency range. With the PIM Hunter test probe connected to a spectrum analyzer in burst detection mode and an appropriate bandpass filter installed, technicians can trace and locate IM3 sources that cause PIM. As the probe tip approaches a source, the PIM value increases by up to 30 dB, thus pinpointing the precise location of the interference source.

Unlike traditional near-field probes, the PIM Hunter uses patent-pending technology to return a constant signal level, regardless of the probe's orientation relative to the PIM source. Accuracy is further ensured because the probe is manufactured using low-PIM construction techniques, so the probe itself does not act as a PIM source. A 0.9 m (35 inch) extension shaft allows the operator to remain at a safe distance from the antennas under test.

The PIM Master MW82119B is a 40W battery-powered PIM analyzer with a Site Master™ for line sweeping. With the Site Master option, the PIM Master can fully certify the performance of a cable and antenna system, providing measurements of PIM, distance to PIM, return loss, VSWR, cable loss, and distance to fault. Anritsu's Spectrum Master family consists of four models that offer excellent flexibility for locating, identifying, recording, and troubleshooting communication systems without sacrificing measurement accuracy. The high-performance BTS Master portable base station analyzers have been specially developed for 4G/3G/2G and WiMAX networks, as well as CPRI RF and BBU emulation.
