Digimondo deployed low-power wide area networks (LPWANs) in Nuremberg, Hamburg, and Berlin and showcased the performance of the Nuremberg network at the trade fair, wirelessly tracking public transport vehicles throughout the city. The vehicles' movements were displayed on a monitor at the Semtech and Microchip booths.

Digimondo, launched by E.ON in June 2015 to help digitize the German energy industry, intends to deploy an open LPWAN based on the standardized LoRaWAN specification. This will facilitate the deployment of innovative IoT applications, such as public transport tracking, smart metering, air pollution monitoring, ship tracking, and more. The network infrastructure, which was tested in Hamburg and Berlin in 2015, has been approved for further deployment in Munich, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Essen, Cologne, and rural areas where bandwidth is sufficient. The network is expected to be open to third-party companies by mid-2016.
