The integration of the innovative connector system into PreCONNECT® cabling systems is yet another contribution to optimizing space utilization in data centers. In addition to standard density (SD), high density (HD), and ultra-high density (UHD), the portfolio will be expanded with Mega High Density (MHD). “With the MDC, port density can be doubled or tripled compared to LC duplex per 19” high unit, depending on the panel system, thus decisively saving rack space,” says Harald Jungbäck, Product Manager for Data Centers at Rosenberger OSI. Mega High Density (MDH) is made possible because MDC adapters with three or four ports can be used instead of LC duplex connectors. Within this application area, the miniature duplex connector stands out due to its flexible and robust push-pull mechanism, which allows for easy handling despite the higher port densities.
The MDC is a push-pull duplex connector based on 1.25 mm ceramic ferrule technology and belongs to the Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) connector category. Developed as a Media Dependent Interface (MDI) or Optical Interface for the new SFP-DD and QSFP-DD transceivers, Harald Jungbäck states: "With the market launch of the two transceivers with the MDC as the connector face, we have the potential to replace the LC duplex ground connector in its position."
