With the R35K series, the 4 or 6 pins are symmetrically designed and can therefore be traced from one side, simplifying circuit design. Carsten Wieber of Panasonic Industry Europe in Ottobrunn, Germany, emphasizes that this does not compromise the functional reliability of the connectors, which are distinguished by their high retention force and robustness thanks to the metal housing design: "Although the R35K has a mating height of only 0.6 mm and a width of 1.3 mm, Panasonic's proven TOUGH CONTACT system could also be used here without any compromise. This means that the connectors are structurally capable of effectively absorbing shocks and vibrations. They therefore reliably withstand everything that a wearable device might experience in daily use."
The small connector is also surprisingly good at handling higher loads, impressively delivering up to 3A on the power connection and 0.3A on the signal terminal. This is good news when it comes to short battery charging times, for example.
