To connect devices with serial or CAN-Bus communication to a Fieldbus or Industrial Ethernet:
• RS232 / RS422 / RS485 – Modbus RTU, AB-DF1, Generic or Programmed Mode...
• CAN-Bus – 11-bit and 29-bit Identifier CAN “Layer 2” Messaging

• To a Field Bus: Profibus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, CANopen, Interbus, FIPIO, Modbus-RTU, Modbus-Plus, CC-Link and Lonworks,
• To an Industrial Ethernet Network: EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus-TCP and EtherCAT.

The Communicator is an intelligent "protocol converter" (data gateway) that provides instant connectivity from Profibus or other Fieldbus to Modbus RTU or Allen Bradley DF1, or ASCII.

Modbus is a well-known serial protocol, and the industrial automation market contains a wide range of existing devices with a Modbus interface, such as temperature sensors, barcode readers, motor controllers, and measuring instruments.

By using the Anybus Communicator, all these devices can be easily integrated into modern automation systems based on Profibus and PLC, such as those from Siemens, Schneider, and ABB.

The Anybus Communicator from HMS Industrial Networks is a small, self-contained, DIN rail-mountable device. It is powered by a 24V industrial power supply and has a typical current draw of only 100mA.

On the Profibus side, the Communicator acts as a slave, and on the Modbus side it acts as a master, offering support for all data transmission speeds between 1200 baud and up to 56kbit/s.

In RS-485 mode, the product can connect up to 31 Modbus RTU serial devices to Profibus.

Setup is done in 7 quick steps with an included, easy-to-use Windows-based configuration tool.

The Profibus (or Fieldbus) converter is part of the HMS Anybus Communicator family, which has 14 different versions that offer support for Fieldbus systems such as:

Profibus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, CANopen, Interbus, FIPIO, Modbus-RTU, Modbus-Plus, CC-Link and Lonworks.

And to the industrial Ethernet protocols:
EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus-TCP and EtherCAT.

All these versions provide the same functionality and allow device manufacturers to connect their automation devices to all major industrial networks.
