Thanks to the comprehensive certification and testing package, these modules can also be used in unusual applications and environments. Examples include G3 compliance according to ISA S71.04-1985 for use in particularly corrosive atmospheres and IECEx certification, which facilitates decentralized installation of applications even in Ex 2 zones. The legally mandated double-checks for process technology installations can be performed easily and visually, directly at the device. This eliminates the costly manual measurements currently required when using standard relays that lack forced guidance according to EN 50205. Furthermore, in standard safe control systems, monitoring of the coupling module's control in case of an error can be defined, so that the test retest—the so-called verification test—is carried out fully automatically. This increases efficiency by reducing downtime without requiring additional investment in hardware or installations.
The compact design of the safety modules is made possible by new relay technology developed by Phoenix Contact. These modules are based on a slim yet powerful basic relay with forced guidance, distinguished by its small footprint, low power consumption, and high system availability. Despite being only 6 mm wide, its performance is equivalent to that of a basic relay with forced guidance conforming to EN 50205. The basic relay consists of one normally closed (NC) and one normally open (NO) contact and is suitable for modular application configurations. To ensure the manufacturing precision required to meet stringent quality standards, the basic relay and all its components are manufactured entirely by Phoenix Contact.
By including the 6 mm module with a single release contact, it is possible to create applications under new, optimized cost-benefit conditions. The Termination Carrier also allows for the use of system wiring solutions for faster and more reliable field connection and commissioning. The complete PSRmini safety relay range comprises 28 items for machine building and process industries.
