A multi-protocol pin configuration enables compatibility with all known SAS, SATA, and PCIe protocols and improves signal integrity in an extremely compact form factor. The connector is ideal for SAS and PCI Express applications, including connections between storage systems and controllers, between servers, server-to-switch, between switches, as well as mobile and enterprise communications.
The flexible pin configuration (continuous ground-signal-signal-ground concept) optimizes the system for high-speed applications and maximizes the number of high-speed lanes, taking into account available lengths. Eight lanes (80 circuits) are offered in accordance with the industry standard.
Thanks to its small size (5 mm x 23 mm x 9 mm) and the low coupling height between the connector and the cable (only 12 mm) for right-angle cable exit, the system is suitable for mobile devices and enterprise applications. The staggered configuration of firm and reliable double-row contacts allows for hot-swapping, meaning components can be added without powering down the system. Furthermore, the connector provides optimal routing for high-speed traces while reducing the space required on the printed circuit board.
In the storage sector, the 80-circuit Nano-Pitch I/O interconnect system is used for enterprise and data center storage equipment, rack storage servers, JBOD and RAID systems, storage controllers and HBA servers, and in the telecommunications and networking sector it is used for concentrators, servers, switches and routers.
