The new Type D micro-connector is approximately half the size of the Type C HDMI mini-connector, but its mechanical strength and electrical performance are equivalent. Mobile phone and consumer electronics users have shown great interest in this new technology, which will allow them to view videos, photos, and other content from their mobile devices in higher definition on full-size flat-screen televisions.

As a contributing member of the HDMI consortium, Molex played a crucial role in enabling the delivery of high-definition content using HDMI connectors and was among ten companies honored with an Emmy® Award for Technology and Engineering, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), in recognition of its pioneering connector.

The HDMI Type D micro-connector is a 19-pin connector with a 0.40 mm pitch, supplied in a 6.50 x 2.90 mm stainless steel housing. The Type D product family includes surface mount (SMT) female connectors with three different mounting designs, several Category 2 HDMI Type D to Type A cable assemblies with varying lengths and diameters, and a Category 2 adapter cable for HDMI Type D male to Type A female connectors.
