The material that makes up this gasket expands at high temperatures, creating a barrier to the passage of flames and also preventing the temperature on the internal surface from exceeding dangerous limits that could create additional combustion.
IFPS intumescent gaskets are mounted on the back of the cable glands (the front faces the potential source of fire). ICOTEK cable glands have been tested according to EN 45545-3 and EN 1363-1 standards at both "E" and "EI" levels for vertical mounting and the use of IFPS intumescent gaskets, which act as a barrier against the spread of flame and smoke. These ICOTEK IFPS gaskets are certified as E45 and EI30 when mounted on 18mm thick panels, and E30 when mounted on 3mm thick steel sheets (according to EN 45545-3 and EN 1363-1). The cable gland inserts are those used for standard applications.
Cable glands with intumescent seals are mounted on control panels and through-walls between compartments in rolling stock within the railway industry.
