PowerGUARD enhancements are engineered into Siemon connectors, plugs, cables, and patch cords to ensure a robust and reliable end-to-end system that protects against the impact of supplying DC power to IP-based devices over low-voltage IT infrastructure.

Remote power technologies, such as PoE and PoH, transmit DC power along with data over copper twisted-pair cabling systems to end devices, impacting network infrastructure deployments by enabling faster installation and reducing costs by eliminating the need for AC power runs. With the availability of IEEE 802.3bt 60W Type 3 and 90W Type 4 PoE for networked devices and 100W PoH for HDBaseT AV devices, remote power capabilities have advanced to power everything from wireless access points and advanced pan, tilt, and zoom surveillance cameras to access control devices, LED lights, video displays, digital signage, point-of-sale systems, and even personal computers.

Siemon's PowerGUARD technology includes patented crowned contacts in the company's Z-MAX®, MAX®, and TERA® sockets. These contacts place arcing damage caused by uncoupled connections while transmitting power away from the final mating position, ensuring the integrity of the contact seat surfaces and maintaining them for extended periods. To combat the effects of heat buildup in DC-carrying cable bundles, which can cause increased signal attenuation and premature aging of the jacket materials, Siemon's Category 6A and 7A cables with PowerGUARD technology are rated for mechanical reliability in high-temperature environments up to 75°C. This ensures superior heat dissipation and stable transmission performance, eliminating the need to reduce link length and cable bundle size.

For networks using modular links with connector termination, where devices connect directly to the network via an RJ-45 connector, Siemon's Z-PLUG® Category 6A field-terminated connector with PowerGUARD technology features a fully shielded 360-degree housing and operates at 75°C, providing superior heat dissipation when used with Siemon PowerGUARD cables. For traditional network deployments using patch cables to connect devices to point-of-sale systems, Siemon's Z-MAX Category 6A and TERA Category 7A
solid-core, four-pair shielded modular cables with PowerGUARD technology also offer an operating temperature of 75°C, reducing the potential for degraded transmission performance at elevated temperatures and making them ideal for use in environments without environmental control (e.g., rooftops and warehouses). For use in environmentally controlled spaces, such as active equipment and cross-connects within telecommunications spaces, Siemon's Category 6A shielded twisted modular cables with PowerGUARD technology are also rated to 75°C, while offering a smaller diameter and greater flexibility for use within patched fields.
