Molex offers its expertise and proficiency in multi-fiber cable assembly terminations and mounting options for this next-generation solution. “By combining its PRIZM LightTurn cable assemblies with its high-density front panel and blind mating backplane interconnects, Molex is able to offer its customers a wide range of end-to-end solutions,” says Tom Schiltz, multi-fiber product manager at Molex Incorporated, adding, “The unique vertical mating of the PRIZM LightTurn connector with Avago’s MicroPOD module represents an advancement over current parallel optical modules used in the telecommunications, data communications, and new high-speed computing markets.”.
Vertical docking allows modules to optimize space utilization and improves cable management because parallel optical modules can be aligned in rows. Multi-fiber ribbon cable assemblies connect to the top of the modules, improving airflow on the printed circuit board. Multiple 12-fiber PRIZM LightTurn connectors can be consolidated into a single front- or rear-panel input/output connector using 12-, 24-, 48-, and 72-fiber MT splice sleeves in Molex high-density interconnects, including matrix and circular MT connectors and HBMT™.
Molex-manufactured PRIZM LightTurn cable assemblies have been certified by US Conec to meet the functional requirements of the Avago module.
