A laser shutter provides integrated protection against laser beams, an international first for this product category. A leaf spring in the adapter opens when the connector is unplugged and covers the fiber tip. This prevents any laser beam from escaping the adapter and eliminates any possibility of accidental eye injury to the user. Thanks to this simple innovation, the new R&M LC Duplex can be used safely in public access areas such as Fiber to the Desktop (FTTd) and Fiber to the Subscriber (FTTh) environments. R&M also offers a semi-transparent dust cap that allows for safe visual verification of the connection using a red light.
This new generation of LC Duplex connectors can also, for the first time, be integrated with R&M's Three-Level Security System, which provides improved patch panel management and helps prevent connection errors, human error, and unauthorized tampering. This system involves three steps: color-coding the connectors with colored plastic frames, mechanical coding with additional clips that prevent incorrect connection if the connector and outlet do not align perfectly, and a system to prevent unauthorized unplugging. This last step consists of a lock inserted into the mechanically coded clip that can only be opened, and the connector unplugged, with a special key.
Furthermore, the adapter body is a single piece and therefore more robust than welded plastic parts. The adapter is compatible with all R&M platforms and can be integrated with existing SC and E-2000‰ infrastructures. It is suitable for single-mode fiber optics of grade C and D, and for multimode fiber optics of grade M.
