The increase in broadband services supporting 4K/8K video is just one of the many factors driving the expansion of optical access networks using passive optical networks (PONs). This rapid growth in data traffic is accelerating the transition of these optical access networks to high-speed 10 Gbit/s PON technology, while simultaneously requiring an evaluation of the upcoming IEEE 802.3ca standard for 100G-EPON with 25 Gbit/s per signal. As a result, the development of OLTs and ONUs for PON systems demands 25 Gbit/s bandwidth performance and more accurate time and margin measurements due to the reduced time per bit.
The MP1800A is a modular plug-in bit error test (BERT) solution for measuring a wide range of multi-channel interfaces up to 64 Gbit/s. The MP1800A's multi-channel signal source and tuning synchronization are ideal for OLT testing requiring high-precision timing adjustment. Furthermore, highly reproducible BER measurements are achieved through high-quality output waveforms and high input sensitivity performance. The MX180014A software controls the MP1800A to generate 2-channel test signal burst patterns and set bias. The GUI facilitates OLT input sensitivity and timing tests by allowing users to set the length and timing of the test signal pattern.
