“Our strategic cooperation with Luxtera offers enormous advantages and makes it possible to combine scalability and high reliability, regardless of speed and number of channels,” says Tom Marrapode, Director of Fiber Optic Product Marketing at Molex, adding: “By working closely with system architects, signal integrity engineers, and hardware designers to solve the multiple challenges of 25 Gbps inputs and outputs to and between customers’ next-generation systems, we have reaffirmed the value that CMOS photonics-based interconnect devices can bring.”.

Molex's silicon photonics-based encapsulated solutions target 100 Gbps Ethernet, OTN, and Infiniband applications, as well as new OIF-compliant short-reach (SR) and very short-reach (VSR) electrical interconnect systems with host computers. The 100 Gbps integrated optical transceiver products will incorporate board-mounted solutions and end-to-end interconnect systems, complementing Molex's broad portfolio of high-speed backplane motherboard interconnects, enclosures, electrical connectors, and zQSFP+ active optical cables.

“The utopia of silicon photonics has finally become a reality, as Molex continues to supply large quantities of silicon photonics-based active optical cables, widely recognized for their lower power consumption and best-in-class performance and reliability,” says Marek Tlalka, Marketing Director at Luxtera. He continues, “Thanks to the fundamental advantages and superior performance of silicon photonics technology, achieving and exceeding speeds of 100 Gbps on a single chip is a straightforward migration. We aim to move aggressively toward terabit and multiterabit connectivity on a single chip, and we are excited about the opportunities this collaboration will bring.”.
