The forum brings together more than 170 companies and organizations from around the world that collaborate on defining next-generation communications infrastructures, with a focus on optical networks, distributed computing, and energy efficiency. As the official spokesperson, Borrill will represent the IOWN Global Forum in external communications and technical outreach activities.
Boost to All-Photonic Networks
The IOWN Global Forum was created to promote new communications infrastructures based on photonic technologies. Its main areas of focus include all-photonic networks (APNs), distributed computing infrastructures, and technologies designed to reduce the energy consumption of communications systems. The organization also fosters the development of applications and use cases that can leverage these capabilities.
Jonathan Borrill is an active member of the Technology and Use Case Working Group, one of the groups responsible for defining technical architectures, requirements, and reference documents to accelerate the deployment of APN-based solutions. His appointment recognizes both his technical expertise and his participation in studies and proof-of-concept projects developed within the forum.
Over 30 years of experience in advanced communications
Jonathan Borrill has over 30 years of experience in radio frequency and communications systems. After graduating with a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton in the UK, he worked for the British Ministry of Defence developing advanced millimeter-wave communications systems. In 2001, he joined Anritsu, where he held various business development and management positions in the EMEA region, eventually becoming CTO of the Test & Measurement business. Throughout his career, he has worked in areas such as communications networks, 5G and 6G technologies, optical networks, network virtualization, and artificial intelligence applications. He is also a full member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and holds the Chartered Engineer (CEng) professional accreditation.
International collaboration for next-generation communications
With this appointment, Anritsu strengthens its participation in international initiatives aimed at developing more advanced and efficient telecommunications infrastructure. The company will continue collaborating with the IOWN Global Forum on technical activities related to optical networks and other next-generation connectivity technologies. The joint work of manufacturers, operators, and technology organizations seeks to facilitate the definition of common architectures and requirements that will enable these innovations to be translated into real-world applications and deployments.
