The new SGP.32 standard allows for independent management of vehicle connectivity (price, costs, activation, support, billing), which is known as the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) approach, allowing manufacturers to market units globally by significantly reducing the complexity associated with managing multiple integrations from different operators in different regions.

Rivian will utilize a secure and scalable connectivity platform based on G+D's automotive eSIM hardware and eIM infrastructure (eSIM IoT Remote Manager). AT&T will act as Rivian's initial mobile network provider in the United States, offering 5G connectivity to enable in-vehicle services, over-the-air updates, and digital updates.

According to BeekGek Lim, Global Head of Business Line Digital Offerings at Giesecke+Devrient, “SGP.32 represents a major step forward for the automotive industry. With G+D’s secure eSIM hardware and its remote management capabilities compatible with the standard, Rivian can deploy a single global hardware SKU while maintaining full flexibility to manage connectivity remotely and securely throughout the vehicle lifecycle. We are proud to support Rivian as one of the early adopters in bringing this new standard to market .

According to Brandon Blumber, Global Director of Business Development at Rivian, “Reliable, high-speed connectivity, along with open standards, is fundamental to the modern vehicle experience. We chose G+D for its expertise in secure and scalable eSIM technology and its ability to support a global rollout. Together with AT&T, we are building a connectivity architecture that delivers performance today, as well as flexibility as we expand into new markets.”

Finally, Mike Van Horn, Assistant Vice President, AT&T Connected Solutions, said, “AT&T is excited to be working with Rivian and G+D to help bring the next generation of connected vehicles to life. This collaboration brings together a technology-driven automaker with leaders in both connectivity and eSIM solutions. Our 5G network provides the performance and scale needed for advanced in-vehicle services, and collaborating with Rivian reflects AT&T’s continued leadership in automotive connectivity .
